Bonnie (Kat Graham) explains why she can't use the Phoenix Stone in a sneak-peek video from "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7, episode 4. CW

Not everyone gets to come back from the dead on “The Vampire Diaries.” In a new clip from Season 7, episode 4, Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Caroline (Candice King) finally get to have some girl talk. Unfortunately, Bonnie doesn’t have much time for bonding when there are magical resurrection stones that have to be dealt with. She explains to Caroline why she wants to avoid using the Phoenix Stone to bring Jo (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) back.

In the clip, Bonnie tries to sneak out of her dorm room (which reminds viewers that these women are actually still in college, despite never going to class). However, Caroline wakes up and stops her. After all, this is the first time they’ve seen each other in weeks.

Bonnie gives Caroline a big hug, but she is a little concerned. “Am I going to catch fire?” Bonnie asks.

Caroline explains that Valerie’s (Elizabeth Blackmore) spell only makes her skin burn vampires. Bonnie promises to work on reversing the Heretic’s magic soon, but Caroline wants to catch up first. “Let’s just go shopping for Halloween costumes, and we can worry about magic later,” Caroline says.

However, that’s a bit too optimistic. Bonnie is already worried. Despite telling Alaric (Matt Davis) that she would help him bring Jo back from the dead, she wants to convince him to leave her spirit alone. “Alaric thinks we can reunite Jo’s spirit with her body by using some sketchy Native American resurrection stone,” she explains. “My job is to crush his dreams in the most gentle way possible.”

Caroline asks if the stone could actually work, but Bonnie doesn’t think they should bring her back. “The other side is gone,” Bonnie reasons. “There’s no more Gemini prison world, which means that Jo’s spirit is probably at peace.”

“Our lives are weird,” Caroline says.

Even though Bonnie wants to ditch Alaric’s current plan, she won’t be able to convince him to let go of his wife. According to the synopsis, they’ll come up with another idea that might take a dangerous turn. “A plan set by Alaric and Bonnie leaves their worlds turned upside down,” the synopsis says. Will they actually bring Jo back?

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 7, episode 4 airs Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT on the CW.
