Luis Suarez's much-anticipated return from suspension did little to inspired scoring as Liverpool and Tottenham played a scoreless match at Anfield on Monday.

Suarez had missed eight matches for racial remarks directed at Patrice Evra of Manchester United. The Uruguay star came on for the Reds in the 66th minute for Dirk Kuyt, but it wasn't enough to lift Liverpool's scoring chances. Suarez received a yellow card in the 70th minute in a volley attempt.

Both clubs had their share of scoring opportunities. Liverpool took 17 shots with four on goal, while Tottenham took 10 shots with three on goal. Possession slightly favoured Liverpool, with 52 percent.

Liverpool's Jay Spearing had a great look in the first half, but his right-footed blast went wide of the near post. Tottenham's Niko Kranjcar's shot from distance was the only save goalkeeper Jose Reina had to make in the first half, as Liverpool made a strong defensive effort.

The two clubs have major tests on Nov. 11. Tottenham will host Newcastle and Liverpool travel to Old Trafford to meet Manchester United.

After 24 matches, Tottenham are in third place in the Premier League standings, while Liverpool are in seventh place.
