Dimitar Berbatov scored a hat trick and Manchester United drew level with Manchester City in the Premier League table, as the Red Devils thumped Wigan, 5-0, on Monday at Old Trafford.

Manchester United had a one-goal lead in the first half after a score from Ji Sung Park. Things went downhill for Wigan when Conor Sammon received a red card for an elbow to Michael Carrick in the 40th minute. Berbatov went to work after that, scoring three goals, including a penalty kick in 78th minute.

Midfielder Antonio Valencia also added a goal with a strike in the 75th minute.

The Red Devils took 20 shots, with eight on goal, while Wigan took nine shots, with two on goal. Manchester United controlled the ball for 60 percent of the match.

Manchester United have been on a tear in recent games. Sir Alex Ferguson's squad defeated Fulham 5-0 on Wednesday, and the Red Devils have outscored their last four opponents, 16-1.

Wayne Rooney didn't start the match, but entered the match for Nani in the 64th minute.

With Manchester City's scoreless result against West Bromwich, United are now even in the standings with 45 points.
