Valencia gave La Liga-leaders Real Mardid a scare on Saturday, but Jose Mourinho's squad came away with the road victory at Estadio Mestalla, 3-2, in an exciting match between two elite Spanish clubs.

Forward Karim Benzema got the scoring started in the 20th minute when he took a freekick pass from Xabi Alonso and delivered a left-footed shot by Diego Alves. The score would remain 1-0 until late in the second half.

In the 72nd minute, Real Madrid would score again off a set piece when Mesut Ozil's corner kick found Sergio Ramos, who bounced a header to give Los Galacticos the lead.

Valencia would mount their comeback as forward Roberto Saldado took a rebounded block from goalkeeper Iker Casillas and delivered a right-footed blast to cut the lead in half. With Casillas out of the box to defend substitute Pablo's shot, Saldado only needed to beat Real Madrid defenders who tried to block his shot.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo would extend the Real Madrid lead when Alves left the box to try to clear a lobbed pass from defender Pepe. Ronaldo was able to elude Alves, and took a right-footed shot from the left side, at a tough angle, to put Real Madrid ahead, 3-1.

The goal prompted Mourinho to jump on the back of Jose Maria Callejon, as Real Madrid bench erupted with excitement.

Forwards Pablo and Soldado would again be involved in a Valencia goal, as Soldado's volley went by Casillas after the saving cross from Pablo. There was life for Valencia, but they couldn't equalize in the final moments.

Valencia remain in third place with the loss, while Real Madrid are still atop the table. Los Galacticos lead archrival Barcelona by three points, as the Catalans managed an easy victory over Real Zaragoza, 4-0.
