U.S. stocks fell on Friday after a survey showed consumer sentiment was little changed in early January, and bank shares weighed after JPMorgan Chase & Co reported deep fourth-quarter losses on mortgage and credit card loans.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> slipped 64.85 points, or 0.61 percent, to 10,645.70. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> lost 7.66 points, or 0.67 percent, to 1,140.80. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> fell 13.77 points, or 0.59 percent, to 2,302.97.
