The recent incident of a 12-year-old female student stabbing a 16-year-old girl at the premises of Thurman White Middle School in Henderson, Nevada, on Aug. 18 has triggered concern about the safety of school children. The video of the incident was posted by ABC-affiliate KTNV.

The stabbing incident was reported at 8:30 a.m. local time, KTNV reported. Police said the preliminary reports clearly indicated that one student was stabbed by another. The girl who was stabbed was identified as Ania Becker.

The school principal, Andrea Katona, confirmed the whole incident in an official statement. Katona said Becker was not a student of Thurman White Middle School. She came to school on the day of the incident to speak to the girl who later stabbed her. An altercation apparently led to the stabbing.

Captain Ken Young from the Clark County School District Police Department told KTNV that Becker was taken to a medical facility with non-fatal injuries. The armed unidentified girl was taken into custody and may face charges of battery with a weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm, he added.

Speaking during a morning briefing outside the school, Young said, “At this point, there seems to be no gang affiliation. There was an altercation off property that culminated here today.”

However, Becker’s mother, Shatell Becker, spoke to KTNV and said her daughter had suffered serious injuries due to the assault. “Her lungs have been penetrated. She's lost 30 percent of her blood so far. They can't her to stop bleeding, so we don't know what the outcome is going to be yet. All I'm concerned right now is my daughter's health. She may lose her life.”

Samauriah Matthews, Becker's 13-year-old aunt, according to KTNV, said Becker was only dropping her off at school. Matthews was worried that some girls in her class wanted to fight with her. "They were gonna jump me.I just wanted her to walk me to class. And that's it. Once she started stabbing her, I really thought she was going to die." she said. However, conflicting reports were published by two different local news websites about Matthews' relationship with Becker. While KTNV claimed she was the aunt of the victim, Fox5 claimed she was her sister.

Speaking to Fox5, Brian Morrison, an eighth-grader, said an altercation began between the two girls when Becker came to Matthews' defense. He described Matthews as Becker's sister. Morrison, who claimed to have witnessed the whole incident specified the 12 -year-old girl was the one who picked up the fight. She also added Becker was carrying the knife that was later used to stab her in the back.

A seventh-grader from the same school, Angel Bautista, also spoke to Las Vegas Review Journal about the incident. A staff reporter posted the video on Twitter where Bautista said, “Think about you're out of school it's supposed to be safe and then you just hear some kid gets stabbed," he said. "It was like a nightmare."
