A video showing sharks swimming in the shallow waters off Levante beach in Spain was uploaded on YouTube on Sept. 14.

In the video, beach-goers are seen fleeing from the water after having spotted dark-colored shark fins floating near the shore. Julie Roberts, 56, from Cheltenham, U.K., was among the many vacationers enjoying a quiet day at the beach with friends, when someone spotted an 8-foot-long shark in the waters.

The shark-sighting stunned many, who till then, believed that the waters were safe for children to wade in. "I was out swimming doing my thing on my own and then when I came back in there were lifeguards blowing their whistles and there was an atmosphere,” Roberts told the Sun. “We looked over and could see two fins coming towards the shoreline. There was a snorkeler just feet away from this animal and he didn't realize. It was terrifying.”

There was also another woman who was swimming very close to the predator, unaware of her deadly companion. “Everyone was shouting at her to try and get her attention and I have never seen anyone move quite so quick as she did when she realized. We didn't expect to see that in such shallow water," Roberts said.

However, according to Roberts, the shark did disappear after a while, to the delight of the beach-goers. “It must have caught a wave and got taken back out again,” she said. Since then, the shark has been spotted multiple times, causing many to take to Facebook to report their sightings.

“Tell you wats [sic] on my mind this morning,” wrote one Facebook user on Friday. “Bloody 8ft shark spotted down at Levante beach end no going in sea today. Can't out swim them buggers.” Another user captured a picture of the shark and posted it on social media.

There are a number of predatory species, including thresher sharks, blue sharks and spinner sharks along with rays and angel sharks, off the coast of Spain. These predators, however, are rarely seen by people. Although there were no injuries during the incident at Levante Beach, a 13-year-old boy was not as lucky on Wednesday, when he was allegedly bitten by a shark in shallow water off the Spanish isle of Gran Canaria, AOL reported.

He had to be rushed to the hospital, with injuries that looked like shark bites on his legs. Even though there was no official confirmation on how the boy might have got those injuries, local authorities were informed that a shark was spotted near the coastlines a few days ago.
