The first trailer for the screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, "The Great Gatsby," has finally been released. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire, as narrator Nick Carraway, the film is due to open Dec. 25 and centers on the mysterious, wealthy, and romantic Jay Gatsby, played by DiCaprio. Set in New York's Jazz Age 1922, the film is consistent with the style of Gatsby director Baz Luhrman, featuring modern music from Kanye West and Jay-Z, as well as Jack White, all of which can be heard in the trailer.

Lavish party scenes, period costumes and decadent fireworks light up the set of what is sure to be one of 2012s biggest blockbusters.

The Great Gatsby novel was first published in 1925 and is set on Long Island's North Shore with a number of scenes taking place in New York City.

Consistent with the novel, the movie is set within the year 1922 from the spring to the autumn and takes place during a prosperous time in American History.

Today The Great Gatbsy is widely regarded as the epitome of the Great American Novel, and a literary classic.

The Modern Library named it the second best English-language novel of the 20th Century.
