“Pirates of the Caribbean” star Johnny Depp is going through a rough time at the moment due to his ongoing divorce from Amber Heard. Just five days ago, the two finalized their separation and have reached a settlement, according to E! News. Given all that is happening in his life, his appearance at the 2017 People’s Choice Awards really came as a huge surprise for his fans.

Depp won this year’s award for favorite movie icon, and in his acceptance speech, the multi-talented actor thanked all of his fans for supporting him throughout the good and bad times. “I came here for one reason tonight, for one reason and one reason only, for you, the people,” he said. “Through whatever good times or bad you've stood by me and trusted me.”

“You very graciously invited me here once again tonight so I appreciate that very much. You have no idea how much I appreciate it,” Depp continued.

The actor even said he is “deeply affected” by the kindness shown by fans, and he is touched by their well-wishes. It felt very momentous for him coming on to the stage and getting the chance to thank everybody who supported him. “Because in all honesty we all know we wouldn't be standing up here tonight if it weren't for you,” he concluded.

Depp and Heard initially filed for a divorce in May 2016. Even though the former couple wanted to stay out of the limelight during that difficult time, news of their separation still made it to the news. Heard claimed domestic abuse allegations against Depp, but the actor vehemently denied it.

As they reached their settlement, Depp agreed to pay Heard $7 million, and he even allowed her to get custody of their dogs Pistol and Boo. As for Heard, she said she is going to donate the money to two charities.
