A disturbing video of New York Police Department (NYPD) officers thrashing a young man has surfaced online. The incident took place in Marble Hill, Manhattan, on Friday as the police accused a 16-year-old teen, identified as Alfred Burns, of trying to steal a bicycle from outside a store at 225th Street and Broadway, The Daily Mail reported.

The boy, who was caught in the act of stealing by the bike owner, knocked a cop on the ground and put his hands around his neck, the New York Post reported. The whole incident is now being reviewed by the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau, according to a police spokeswoman, the report said.

Burns started struggling when cops approached him. When he pushed one officer to the ground, the other officer rushed to help his colleague and landed a few punches on Burns as can be seen in the video that first appeared on LiveLeak.com.

It was also uploaded by a YouTube channel, Holly Sports World TV, on the video-sharing website.

A third female police officer can also be heard in the video, asking Burns to stop resisting. Several bystanders on the street can also be heard in the video, asking the officers to stop hitting the teen.

“No, what are you doing? What did you do?” an onlooker shrieks repeatedly. The person filming the video is also heard quipping that the beating was a little extra.

The video also vividly shows how the officer pushed a pedestrian’s hand away as he tried to stop him. Burns was later arrested with assault, resisting arrest, criminal possession of stolen property and giving a fake name, reports said.

He was also taken to the Lincoln Hospital for treatment. The name of the officers involved in the incident has not been revealed yet. According to the police officials, this is not the first time that Burns, who belongs to Morrisania — a historical name for South Bronx in New York City — was arrested for a criminal offense.

Reports suggest that Burns was trying to resist his arrest as he was already wanted in connection with two other attempted robberies in The Bronx from incidents reported on July 26 and 31.

On July 26, Burns approached a man in The Bronx and asked him to give away his money. According to the police, when the man refused, he took off. Officials also revealed about another incident when Burns followed a 56-year-old man to the second floor of his residence and demanded money from him.

When the elderly man made Burns aware of the surveillance cameras in the building, he took off, the Post reported. Later, on the same day, Burns was also accused of robbing a cab driver at knifepoint. He stole $75, a cell phone and a tablet from the cab driver. The teen was arrested Aug. 8 for both the incidents and charged with attempted robbery. Whether there is still a case against Burns or whether he served time when he was arrested back in August is still unclear.
