The hosts of “Westworld” were full of surprises in Season 1. Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) turned out to be the killer Wyatt, while Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton) managed to get out of the park’s repetitive existence, only to come back to rescue her daughter. But what about Teddy Flood (James Marsden)?

The cowboy was determined to track down Wyatt and seek justice for his comrades. But during his journey, he came to realize that he is nothing more than a humanoid robot designed to entertain high-paying guests in a make-believe park. His whole life was nothing more than a narrative to park operators.

But despite this “terrifying” reality, Marsden believes Teddy will still be a good character throughout Season 2. “There’s a virtuous element to the character,” Marsden told Star 2. “Although against all odds, he will still do the right thing. He’d rather live a peaceful life. I love him working towards that and then getting pulled back and getting killed, reset, and then getting killed and reset (again).”

Marsden said he thoroughly enjoyed filming Season 1, especially since Teddy came to so many realizations. “The awakening and evolution of Teddy is such a great playground for an actor,” he said. “The character is very complicated, haunted by his past but down to his core, a good person.”

Even though Teddy might not react violently to the truth about his reality, the same cannot be said of his former flame, Dolores. Wood told Entertainment Weekly that Dolores will be different next season, and it’s all because of the revelation she learned during the season finale.

“I’m really curious to see the unleashed version of her that we caught a glimpse of at the very end of the finale,” she said. “Those final seconds, I think we were seeing a completely different side to her, completely different programming and completely off of her leash, so I don’t think she will be the same person; she’ll be an evolved version.”

A lot of fans are excited for the next season of the sci-fi series, so show creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy definitely have a lot of things to deal with. To make matters worse for them, they were forced to change the script for Season 2, episode 3 after fans correctly guessed the plot twist they had in store.

“Reddit has already figured out the third episode twist,” Nolan said. “So, we’re changing that right now. It’s annoying sometimes when people guess the twists and then blog about it, but the engagement is gratifying, on one level, because if someone guesses your twist, it means you’ve done an adequate job [of structuring the series].”

However, Nolan has pleaded with fans to stop because it’s difficult to change something that they have already elaborately planned. “You can’t complain when people are that engaged,” he added. “It’s very gratifying — but stop doing it, please.”

“Westworld” Season 2 premieres on HBO in 2018.
