Jon Gosselin may no longer star on TLC but he’s not completely out of the spotlight. The former “Jon and Kate Plus 8” lead is speaking out after years of custody drama with his ex-wife, reality star Kate Gosselin.

April 1 marks Jon’s 40th birthday and ahead of the momentous celebration, he spoke out about his life post-fame. Seven years after exiting the show, which has since been retooled as “Kate Plus 8,” Jon’s eight children, 16-year-old twins Mady and Cara, and 12-year-old sextuplets Aaden, Collin, Leah, Joel, Alexis and Hannah, remain his No. 1 priority. Because of this, he is unsure if reality television is the best thing for them, something Kate swears they enjoy.

While Jon noted to In Touch Weekly that it’s wonderful the show makes it so his kids are financially taken care of, he worries how fame will effect them in the long run.

“It’s a tough battle growing up today. Is money and fame for the better or worse? These are the things I struggle with as a parent and the decisions I made for them and still have to make today, we all have to make major decisions as parents but as long as we love our children, I believe we can work in the best interest for them.

“Knowing what I know now, knowing how much more educated I am, with [how] much more mature I have become, I would probably change a few things.”

Still, Jon, who has since moved on from Kate to girlfriend Colleen Conrad, says he’s undecided if going on TV was bad for his family.

“I guess doing TV was the best and worst decision I made. There is good and bad with every decision,” he said.

Jon’s latest statement comes several months after his highly publicized argument between him and one of his eldest daughters. After revealing in an August 2016 interview that Mady and Cara stopped coming to his home when they became teenagers in favor of being with their friends, Mady fired back.

“He makes it seem like we’re being kept from him, which is insane. He should maybe spend some time thinking about why we don’t want to see him,” Mady said. “He doesn’t even know us… How can he dare to talk about us?”

Jon responded by saying he was “upset” and shocked by his daughter’s statement and that he loves his children “very much.”
