U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., whom President Barack Obama recently nominated to be the next secretary of state, is testifying in a confirmation hearing Thursday in the Senate.

If chosen, Kerry will replace Hillary Clinton.

Kerry said if confirmed he is looking forward to working with Capitol Hill lawmakers, building on Clinton's record and working with Obama.
