Ariana is blowing up on Twitter. Don’t feel bad if you haven’t heard of her, she’s one of the newest young starlets to command a massive presence on social media, and she now has more than 10 million mostly tween and teen Twitter followers who call themsleves “Arianators.”

On Sunday, “Ariana” was for a time the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter’s U.S. trend chart, while her fan base in relatively small Poland was even able to get #ArianaPleaseComeToPoland to the top of Twitter’s worldwide trend chart the same day.

It’s quite the feat for one person to be able to take over social media to such a degree, but she’s still fairly under the radar compared with her contemporaries, such as Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, the Janoskians, Taylor Swift and One Direction, each with its own millions of loyal Twitter followers.

But Ariana Grande has made a big name for herself, and that’s turning into real online cred, which finally broke through to the mainstream Sunday afternoon. Here’s what you need to know about the phenomenon known simply as Ariana.

Full name Ariana Grande-Butera, Ariana Grande is the stage name of the artist behind the trends. Having just turned 20 in June, Ariana is one of the freshest faces in the pop-music scene, but she’s also in the early stages of a promising acting career, so you may recognize her from as the girl who played Cat Valentine on the quirky hit Nickelodeon television shows “Victorious” and “Sam & Cat”; the TV movie “Swindle”; or the 2012 Pasadena Playhouse presentation of “A Snow White Christmas,” featuring Ariana alongside Neil Patrick Harris (OK, you probably didn’t actually see that last one).

If you haven’t seen her act, you’ve likely at least heard her music, as the singer and lyricist is an up-and-coming star, taking the young pop demographic by storm in September with the release of her first full-length studio album “Yours Truly,” featuring the hit single “The Way,” as noted by Fanlala.com. Visit her official YouTube page if you’d like to give some of her songs a listen.

A singer with real pipes in the style of her idols Mariah Carey and Amy Winehouse, Ariana is a breath of fresh air in a pop-music industry often overtaken by groups of good-looking musicians with little musical aptitude to back it up. Born in Boca Raton, Fla., Ariana has shot to fame faster than most stars could ever dream of, and her Arianators are hoping she’ll continue to flourish.

Her career is not without controversy, however, as haters appear to come out of the woodwork wherever she goes. On Sunday, rumors swiftly spread across social media that Luke Brooks of the music group The Janoskians allegedly called Ariana a “w----,” pitting the Janoskianators against the Arianators in just the latest hate she’s received from fellow musicians and other personalities.

Ariana currently dates Nathan Sykes of the band The Wanted. According to Hollywood Life, the two officially announced their relationship via Twitter (naturally) on Sept. 24, and a picture of them at an airport went viral on Sunday, as her young fans were excited to see the couple out and about. She previously dated Jai Brooks of The Janoskians, but they split up this year, MStars News said.

Keep an eye on Ariana Grande. She’s going places, and her Arianators will likely propel her to ever-greater heights in coming years.
