A number of Bangor, Michigan, school employees were caught off school grounds making inappropriate comments about students, leading one to resign following an impromptu meeting with the school’s administration.

Several Michigan teachers and school officials were sitting together at the Bangor Tavern Bar and Grill when the comments were uttered, ranging from statements about whom they would sleep with, marry or kill. The six-minute video that captures the staffers’ comments was posted on YouTube Monday, revealing one official saying a student was “beautiful” while another joked about "fuck[ing]"another.

During a school board meeting following the publication of the video, school district lawyer Robert Hubert spoke to a large group of outraged parents and community members.

“We can’t regulate what they do off school property unless it has an adverse effect on the school setting,” he said.

Parents were still upset about the incident despite reprimands handed out to several participants, including the suspension of two teachers and the resignation of Patti Waite, the superintendent's secretary.

"It's disturbing to know that these are our educators. They are in charge of protecting our children, keeping our children safe, and the fact that they just blew that out of the water shows their character and shows that maybe they're not right for this job," parent Jennifer Prentice told WXMI, Grand Rapids.

Another parent, Amanda Reprogal, said the video was “heartbreaking. My heart sank. I was disgusted.”

Members of the school’s staff also were distraught, Bangor Police Chief Tommy Simpson said. Simpson viewed the clip and said he likely would not bring charges, leaving the matter to school officials.

"There was a member of the school staff that filed a complaint because she felt threatened by the video," Simpson told WZZM, Grand Rapids.
