The Xiaomi Redmi 3 is the latest budget phone from the Chinese manufacturer that was unveiled Tuesday. The budget phone sports a full-metallic chassis and a low price tag of 599 yuan ($105).

Design and Display

The design of the Xiaomi Redmi 3 is the striking feature of the smartphone. The full metal chassis sports an elegant design of numerous diamonds on the back panel. Its thickness is 8.5 mm and it weighs 144 grams. It is available in three colors like gray, gold and silver.

On the other side, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 comes with plastic chassis. Its thickness is 9.5 and its weight is 133 grams. The Redmi 2 comes in numerous colors like yellow, pink, green, white and black.

The Redmi 3 features a 5-inch screen whereas the Redmi 2 is fitted with a 4.7-inch screen. Both the smartphones support HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

Chipset, RAM and Storage

The Xiaomi Redmi 3 is fueled by 1.5 GHz Snapdragon 616 chipset and 2 GB of RAM. The native storage available on the Redmi 3 is 16 GB. The hybrid SIM card slot allows users to either use a nano-SIM or a microSD card of up to 128 GB in one of the slots. The other SIM slot supports a regular micro-SIM.

The Redmi 2 is powered by low-end 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 chipset and 1 GB of RAM. It features 8 GB of native storage along with support for 32 GB of microSD on external storage. The Redmi 2 Prime model features 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage and same specifications as Redmi 2 model.

The 13-megapixel shooter of the Redmi 3 has the prowess of focusing on subject in 0.1 seconds. The front-facing camera is of 5-megapixel. On the other hand, the Redmi 2 features an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel frontal camera. The Android 5.1 Lollipop modified with MIUI 7.0 is present on Redmi 3 whereas as Android 4.4 KitKat customized with MIUI 6.0 UI is available on Redmi 2.

The Xiaomi Redmi 3 is powered with 4100 mAh battery that is equipped with rapid charging feature. The predecessor smartphone is powered by 2200 mAh battery that also comes with support for rapid charging.

According to GSM Arena, the Redmi 3 is available with a price tag of 599 yuan ($105). The Redmi 2 is currently available for 599 yuan ($105) and the Redmi 2 Prime variant is priced at 699 yuan ($152).
