Yemeni troops have recaptured two former al Qaeda strongholds in the south of the country after battles that killed at least 20 insurgents and four government soldiers.

The al Qaeda affiliated organization, Ansar al-Sharia, said they had withdrawn from Jaar and Zinjibar to avoid bloodshed but added they were preparing attacks on the capital Sanaa.
