A 10-year-old boy in India allegedly raped a 7-year-old girl after watching pornographic videos on his mobile phone, media reports said.

The incident took place in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. A senior police officer, identified as Pankaj Mishra, said the accused had been detained, and, during questioning, he confessed to the crime.

"We have lodged an FIR (First Information Report) in which the boy has been charged with rape and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act," he said.

After being taken into custody, the unidentified boy was produced before the district juvenile board, and later sent to a juvenile home, The Kashmir Monitor reported.

According to the victim's father, the girl was alone in the house when the incident took place. When the parents returned home, they found her scared and crying. The family informed the police, and an investigation was launched into the incident.

"The minor boy told the police officials that he watched porn on a mobile phone that belongs to one of his relatives after which he committed the crime," Mishra said, Siasat reported, citing IANS.

It remains unclear if the accused was known to the victim. It is also not known how he entered the home, while the child was alone.

Last week, a 25-year-old man was arrested in connection to the alleged rape of a 4-year-old girl, who was found dumped in a sugarcane field. The incident took place in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The girl's family started searching for the minor after she went missing. The police also got involved in the search for the girl, and, after 16 hours, she was found unconscious, covered in blood, in a sugarcane field. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was asked to be transferred to another facility in Indore as she had serious injuries.

The police arrested the 25-year-old man in connection with the case. He was earlier charged under Section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code. Later, they added Section 376 (rape) and relevant provisions of the POCSO Act, senior police officer Vivek Singh said at the time.
