“2 Broke Girls” stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs are finally breaking their silence following CBS’ decision to cancel their show after six seasons.

On her Twitter account, Dennings posted a joint statement with Behrs expressing their sadness over the cancellation. The two actresses, who played the roles of Max and Caroline, respectively, also took the time to thank their fans for their support.

In addition, Behrs tweeted a photo of herself with all of her co-stars from the half-hour sitcom. The actress opted to make her caption short and simple, writing, “Family. Always,” along with a heartbroken emoji. In a follow-up post, Behrs uploaded an image of Max and Caroline hugging each other and tagged Dennings.

“2 Broke Girls” cast members Jonathan Kite and Matthew Moy also posted similar tweets on their respective accounts. Kite thanked the fans for their support and love. The actor, who played Oleg in the sitcom, added that the fans of the show made a huge difference in his life. Moy shared the same photo that Behrs uploaded and captioned it with six black hearts.

The cancellation of “2 Broke Girls” was officially announced by CBS on Friday. Deadline reported that one of the reasons for the cancellation was mainly because CBS had no ownership of the series. However, executive producer Michelle Nader previously told TV Line that Season 7 may still happen. She also shared some of the storylines that would’ve been part of the upcoming episodes had the sitcom been renewed.

“This is not the end for these girls. We’re not finished and we don’t want to be finished and I don’t think the audience is finished. Obviously there’s no guarantee that we will be back, but we did not write the finale episode as a series finale,” she said.

In the final episode of “2 Broke Girls” Season 6, Max got engaged to her boyfriend, Randy (Ed Quinn). The happy news may have caused a problem in Max and Caroline’s relationship because the latter’s boyfriend, Bobby (Christopher Gorham), and Randy don’t really get along well. Another storyline that would’ve taken center stage in Season 7 has to do with Max’s decision on whether or not to live with Randy or stay with Caroline. The best friends have been living together for several years now, and Max’s decision could change their dynamic.

Unfortunately, none of these storylines will be explored on television anymore. On top of this, Cher’s introduction as Max’s mom will no longer happen as well. According to TV Line, Max’s mom was supposed to be introduced in the final episode for Season 6, but some casting issues forced Nader and her team to delay her arrival. “We didn’t find the right person. We’ve waited a long time to meet her, so it’s got to be somebody amazing,” she said.

The publication also reported that there had been early discussions to tap Cher for the role. As of late, Nader and her team don’t have any plans to find “2 Broke Girls” a new home.
