A two-month-old baby died after falling into the sea while playing on the balcony of a wooden home at a water village in Labuan, Malaysia, on Tuesday.

The boy, identified as Muhamad Aidan Hakimi Mohd Reduan, slipped off the balcony of a house built on a pole over the water that was reportedly under construction and was found floating in the water underneath the house by his uncle when he returned home from work. The child’s father reported the incident to the police Tuesday evening.

A preliminary investigation report stated that the boy was playing on the balcony at his grandmother’s house when the incident occurred and was under the care of his 20-year-old aunt at the time.

“The boy was left with his aunty as the parent had gone to the bank downtown ... when the boy was playing on the balcony, which is not gated, she did not realize the boy had plunged into the sea until the uncle came home,” police said.

“The uncle, upon seeing the boy was floating underneath the house, tried to save him but to no avail ... and he decided to send him to the hospital, but sadly, the boy was pronounced dead a short time later,” police added.

The baby's family was not called in for questioning regarding the incident as the authorities believe that it was a tragic accident. So far, no arrests were made and the case was being investigated as sudden death.

In a similar incident, a 9-month-old baby drowned in a bathtub while her parents were asleep. The incident took place at Hobe Sound, Florida, on Friday afternoon. The child’s mother was giving the baby a bath when she decided to leave her alone in the bathtub for about 20 minutes to take a nap. The infant was found unresponsive when the mother returned to check on her and was later pronounced dead by the hospital.
