The first round of the 2012 Greenbrier Classic is underway from The Old White TPC in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. After his win last weekend at the AT&T National, Tiger Woods is attempting to win his first back to back tournaments since August of 2009.

The Greenbrier is a brand new tournament in only its third year as part of the PGA Tour; it is also the first to be played in West Virginia. Many of the players had not been to the state before playing in this tournament.

Woods teed off early on Thursday morning in one of the marquee groups along with 2012 U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson and Steve Stricker. Scott Stallings, and Stewart Appleby, the two previous winners of the tournament are paired with Phil Mickelson in another group that will attract some attention.

Woods has now passed Jack Nicklaus for total PGA Tour wins with his 74th at Congressional last week; he now needs eight more to tie Sam Snead for the most of all time.
