As the NFL heads into Week 12, there is a new favorite to win the 2018 MVP award in New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

For much of the season, it was Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes who was the leading contender. Last month, he was the +150 favorite as per BetOnline, while just over a week ago, he was as high as -150, according to Bovada odds.

Bovada listed Brees as the second favorite with +300 odds at the time, but in their latest odds, now have the 39-year-old as the -210 favorite.

It coincides with the Saints (9-1) being +325 co-favorites with the Los Angeles Rams (10-1) to win the Super Bowl, following their huge 48-7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11.

In that game, Brees threw for 363 yards and completed 22 of 30 passes, including four touchdown passes. In total, he has thrown for 2,964 yards and has 25 touchdown passes in the 2018 season. He also has the league's highest quarterback rating with 87.6 with Mahomes behind in second with 82.7.

Mahomes, however, still leads the league in other categories including passing yards (3,628) and touchdown passes (37) despite dropping down to +200. Six of his 37 touchdowns came in Monday's classic against the Rams, but his MVP chances seem to have been affected by his five turnovers during the defeat.

As for Brees, among his many accomplishments including being a Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl MVP as well as an 11-time Pro Bowl selection, he has never won the MVP award during the regular season. He came closest in 2006 when he garnered four votes while teammate LaDainian Tomlinson received 44 of the 50 votes.

Getting the MVP award would cap off what has already been a huge season for the Austin native, having passed Peyton Manning last month to become the all-time NFL passing leader, with 73,409 yards at the time of writing. He is also 27 touchdown passes away from passing Manning (539) when it comes to all-time touchdown passes.

Meanwhile, Rams quarterback Jared Goff is third with +1600 odds while teammate and running back Todd Gurley is in fourth with +1800 odds, having the best odds for a non-quarterback. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is in fifth with +2000 odds.

Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are long shots for the award, with respective odds of +4000 and +7500.

Below are the full odds from Bovada:

  • Drew Brees -210
  • Patrick Mahomes +200
  • Jared Goff +1600
  • Todd Gurley +1800
  • Andrew Luck +2000
  • Tom Brady +4000
  • Philip Rivers +5000
  • Alvin Kamara +5000
  • Ben Roethlisberger +6600
  • Aaron Rodgers +7500
  • Kirk Cousins +7500
  • Carson Wentz +10000
  • Cam Newton +10000
  • Deshaun Watson +10000

With just a couple of weeks left in the 2018 NFL season, the MVP award is Brees' to lose, at least according to the betting odds.
