A three-month-old baby in England was brutally attacked by a man leaving the child with eight broken bones in his arms and legs. The accused was sentenced to four years in jail, reports said.

Marc Caulton, 33, left the "defenseless" child with the horrific injuries after attacking him on several occasions. The child was rushed to Nottingham's Queen’s Medical Centre with a limp arm.

Doctors later confirmed that the baby's arm was badly fractured. They also said the injuries had occurred on more than one occasions and that it resulted from a blunt force trauma, police said.

Caulton, of Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm, causing a child to suffer serious injury and child neglect. He later admitted to causing the horrific injuries. Caulton was handed a lifetime restraining order and ordered to pay court costs at Nottingham Crown Court.

"There’s something to be said for a man who chooses to abuse a child so defenseless, a child so young they haven’t even developed the ability to ask for help," Detective Constable Chris Taylor, of Nottinghamshire Police's Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said. “Caulton is manipulative and has caused a cascade of devastation and confusion for the child’s family."

“They now have to move on from this without any explanation as to why their son suffered such horrific injuries, but I hope knowing that he is behind bars will give them some closure," Taylor added.

“Fortunately the boy has a bright future ahead and is not expected to suffer long term effects from his injuries, or have any memory of the abuse Caulton put him through," he went on to say. “I hope he can now go on to have a safe and happy childhood with his loving family. This case has shocked our department and we simply cannot understand how a human being could do this to a baby."
