Locals also thrashed the accused after the incident came to light. "He will be sent to jail after being discharged from the hospital. Trial in the case will within one week," senior police officer Rajkumar Sah told The Times of India at the time. Police said that the accused dumped the body of the victim on the railway track after killing her. Media reports claimed the accused was a rickshaw puller.
