  • Allen was denied bail as she has "mental issues"

A Pennsylvania mother was arrested for allegedly stabbing her 5-year-old daughter.

The incident took place in front of the victim's 9-year-old brother. On Wednesday, Cierra Allen's son had called his maternal grandmother saying he was ready for school. Within minutes, Allen called back, saying she had stabbed her daughter, Penn Live reported, citing an affidavit of probable cause.

The grandmother arrived at Allen’s West Maple Street apartment and found the 5-year-old bleeding from stab wounds to her stomach.

The victim told her grandmother “mommy did it,” the affidavit said. “Mommy would not stop,” the victim's brother later added, according to the documents.

The boy told the police he watched Allen stab his sister multiple times in the back and “in the guts,” while she yelled “stop, Mommy,” the affidavit read. The girl told the police her mother tried to kill her.

The child's grandmother rushed her to the WellSpan York Hospital where staff told the police she suffered multiple puncture wounds to her back and stomach, CBS Pittsburgh reported. On Thursday morning, she was taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center where the 5-year-old remained in critical condition.

“Our Department would like to ask you to join us in prayer as we plead for the strength and recovery of that Beautiful little Girl (as she continues to fight for her life), love and support to the family (as they work through this tragedy), and peace-of-mind to all the Officers, Emergency workers, Medical personnel and School staff who responded to this incident. Thank you," Commissioner Michael Muldrow said in a statement on the York City Police Department’s CrimeWatch page.

Allen was charged with attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering the welfare of children. Authorities said she was denied bail as she has “mental issues and may pose a danger to herself and others, including her children.”

In a similar incident in December 2020, a woman was charged for stabbing her two children to death in her home in Georgia. Berenice Jaramillo-Hernandez, 26, of Gainesville, killed her children, identified as 5-year-old Mateo Miranda Jaramillo and 6-year-old Katherine Miranda Jaramillo. After killing the kids, Jaramillo-Hernandez turned the knife on herself.
