The owners and staff of a bakery in New York escaped unhurt on Tuesday after an 82-year-old woman drove her car through the front window of the shop.

Kathryn Ford mixed up the brake and accelerator pedals and ended up crashing through the Dolce and Biscotti bakery in Clifton Park, state police said.

Tom Fron, whose wife Mary Baldi-Fron owns the bakery, told local media that Ford was so in shock that she kept her foot on the pedal even after the crash. He said he had to run over and turn off the ignition.

“I was at the cash register and everyone else was in separate corners of the bakery. It happened so fast. I heard a crash and she was in the middle of the bakery,” Tom Fron said.

Meanwhile, Mary Baldi-Fron told NEWS10 ABC that she was pinned between the cases and the tables. “I was decorating, so no I did not see the woman driving through; I was trying to get myself out once it stopped,” she added.

While no one got seriously injured, Mary Baldi-Fron said she had a moment of panic when she couldn’t find one of her employees right away. “We thought she was trapped under the car. But she was able to squeeze out, and she got so scared I guess she ran out the back door and ran in the cooler,” she told NEWS10 ABC.

The police said a witness sustained a minor arm injury and was looked at by the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel present at the scene.

The bakery will be closed for a week or two to rebuild the place. Mary Baldi-Fron said she was calling everyone who had placed an order with the bakery to process refunds for them. She also urged people to go to Zachary’s Pastry Shoppe in case of any urgent requirement.

In another incident from New York, seven members of a family were injured last year after a car crashed into a horse-drawn buggy. 24-year-old Justin Niver crashed his car into “a slow-moving vehicle, traveling in the same direction.” The coachman, Matthew Sensenig, his wife and their five children were injured in the incident.
