Many of us have known Selena Gomez since her Disney Channel days. The pop sensation has since then gone on to become a well-known actress, producer, and singer. As a highly celebrated influencer, other people wonder how she has become a favorite among the audience.

The 27-year-old began her career at a young age when she joined the cast of “Barney and Friends,” which also featured Demi Lovato. Gomez’s brilliance shone brightly at the children’s show, which may be the reason she landed other shows in Disney – the most notable of which was her starring role as Alex Russo in “the Wizards of the Waverly Place.”

After these, she appeared in several shows (“Hannah Montana” and “the Suite Life of Zack and Cody”), and went on to star in her own film, “Another Cinderella Story.” Gomez went on to have a colorful career and despite her success, she remains unique in her own way.

For one, she has been candid about her mental health struggles. According to Popsugar, Gomez doesn’t install the Instagram app for her mental health. This is despite being one of the most followed on the platform.

“It would make me feel not good about myself, and look at my body differently, and all kinds of stuff. So I actually don't have it on my phone,” Gomez shared.

Social media can be a black hole filled with negativity and Gomez certainly knows when it is time to take a break. The “Wolves” hitmaker had found a way to update her fans – by using her pal’s phone.

Gomez has also used her voice to encourage those battling mental health problems like her. She recently opened up about her bipolar disorder on Miley Cyrus’ Instagram show “Bright Minded” and spoke about how understanding what she was going through greatly helped her to face it.

The songstress had also said that finding professional help aided her personal growth. As such, knowing what she was dealing with became life-changing.

People also admire Gomez for her raw honesty when she penned a Time essay revealing that her paternal grandparents were undocumented immigrants and that she is proud of her Latin roots.

“Undocumented immigration is an issue I think about every day, and I never forget how blessed I am to have been born in this country thanks to my family and the grace of circumstance," she previously said.
