‘American Crime Story’
How will Donatella (Penelope Cruz) react to her brother’s death in “American Crime Story” Season 2? FX

FX just dropped a cryptic trailer for “American Crime Story” Season 2, titled “The Assassination of Gianni Versace,” and it featured the famous designer's sister, Donatella (Penelope Cruz).

The 20-second clip did not exactly show Donatella’s face, but half of her body is seen in the trailer. She is holding some flowers and places them on top of her brother’s coffin. Gianni Versace’s (Edgar Ramirez) face isn’t also shown in the clip. He’s assumed to be lying in the coffin that was on board a funeral vehicle.

“Versace” centers on the shocking death of the designer by an obsessed serial killer named Andrew Cunanan (Darren Criss). According to reports, Versace was shot twice in the head on July 15, 1997, after he returned home from a short trip to Miami Beach’s New Café. While he was opening his front gate, Cunanan walked up to him and shot him dead.

The same story has been detailed in Maureen Orth’s book, titled “Vulgar Favors,” which “Versace” executive producer and director Ryan Murphy used as inspiration for the series.

Earlier this month, FX also dropped a teaser for “Versace” that showed the designer’s lavish home, which will play a crucial role in the series. Pigeons also flocked his gate to signify that something bad is about to happen to him. Murphy spoke with Entertainment Weekly to share what it was like filming outside Versace’s actual home where he was shot 20 years ago.

“It was really awful. It was actually one of the worst things I’ve ever shot. It was the exact position of the body. Edgar had to lay on those coral steps for two days. It was very intense. It was very intense for Darren and Edgar. It was one of the most intense I think for Ricky Martin. The crew was in tears. We would constantly have to stop and wait for everybody to get it back together. In shooting the show, I think we’ve all come to really love Versace,” he said.

Martin will play the role of the designer’s partner, Antonio d’Amico.

“The Assassination of Gianni Versace” will premiere on FX sometime next year.
