A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Santa Ana, California, on Wednesday night, resulting in the cancelation of two Metrolink trains.

The incident took place between the Santa Ana and Fullerton stations around 9:05 p.m. local time (12.05 a.m. EST). Capt. Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority said the victim, whose identity was not known, was hit by Amtrak Train A591 and declared dead on the spot, the Orange County Register reported.

A Metrolink spokesman said two trains on its Orange County Line — Train 645 operating from Laguna Niguel to Fullerton and 644 operating from Fullerton to Oceanside — were canceled post the fatal accident.

The Metrolink has offered accommodation to the passengers on Orange County Transportation Authority buses as well as in ride-hailing services including Uber and Lyft.

American television producer Christina Cindrich, who was traveling on the train that hit the man, tweeted, “Omg on Amtrak right now by Santa Ana and the train just hit a man in the dark. His body is directly below my window. He’s not alive. Waiting for coroner. How very sad. God rest his soul. Going to be a while here.”

This is a developing story.
