Former light heavyweight world boxing champ Andre Ward reveals how Canelo Alvarez could beat Sergey Kovalev.

Back in 2017, undefeated boxing champ Ward TKO’d Kovalev in just 8 rounds. And now that Kovalev is very likely to fight another world-class champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Ward reveals how the Mexican star could score a win over his former opponent.

In a recent media scrum, Ward alongside five-time world boxing champ Timothy Bradley briefly discussed the talked-about fight between Canelo and Kovalev.

Ward admitted that at this point, he has more questions than answers pertaining to how the Canelo vs. Kovalev fight would go down. However, as a fighter who was able to stop Kovalev, Ward made a quick prediction of the fight.

According to Ward, he can see Canelo stopping Kovalev but he doubts if the Mexican boxing star would be able to keep up with Kovalev’s reach.

“I can see Canelo stopping him. But the only question is how is he gonna get to the reach, consistently enough,” Ward said.

Ward then further explained how he thinks a fighter like Canelo could possibly beat a much bigger opponent like Kovalev. Based on Ward’s assessment, Canelo could win if he will batter the Russian fighter’s body.

“I can see him stopping Kovalev if he can get inside,” Ward pointed.

Meanwhile, Kovalev’s promoter Kathy Duva is confident that his fighter can “outbox” Canelo as Kovalev has already dealt with much bigger punchers in the past, World Boxing News reported.

“I think that this performance from Sergey makes a fight with Canelo that much more interesting. Sergey survived with a much bigger puncher than Canelo and outboxed him pretty consistently throughout the fight,” Duva pointed.

Canelo vs. Kovalev has been widely talked-about in boxing until Kovalev decided to continue with a scheduled title defense this past Saturday against Anthony Yarde. Kovalev managed to stop Yarde in the 11th round and many believe that Kovalev’s win is the final piece that would complete the bout against Canelo.

Kovalev’s manager Egis Klimas told ESPN that they are ready for the fight and if Canelo’s team is also interested, they should make a good offer.

"We're ready, so if they're serious about that fight, they should come with an offer," Klimas said.

Klimas, Kovalev and Duva are fully aware that they're worth a lot in this fight. Alvarez, Golden Boy and DAZN, which has $365 million tied up in Alvarez, know it too and are believed to realize they need to come up with a fair deal.
