  • Andrew Bogut played for five NBA teams including the Golden State Warriors
  • Fox Sports's Nick Wright recently said Nikola Jokic would be the "worst MVP in 35 years"
  • Bogut did not appreciate the analyst's comments and went on to blast him in his podcast

Former NBA player Andrew Bogut slammed Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright following the reporter’s controversial remarks on Nikola Jokic’s case for the MVP.

The 36-year-old Aussie blasted Wright in his Rogue Bogues podcast, questioning his recent comments on the Denver Nuggets All-Star and suggesting to change his name.

“What is he talking about? … Change his name. Nick Wrong, that’s his name. Not Nick Wright. He’s Nick Wrong from now on. How can you [say he’s] the worst MVP in 35 years?” a fuming Bogut exclaimed.

Of course, Bogut was pertaining to Wright’s take on the "First Things First" show when he said the following:

“When you look at the league of MVPs over history, I say this with respect to Jokic, historically speaking, he would be the worst one we've had in 35 years.”

He even went on to argue that Jokic’s name does not ring the bell the same way other superstars do.

“Chris Paul wouldn't be. Chris Paul is an all-time great player... But when you look at who's won the MVPs? Oh, it's Giannis, it's Steph, it's LeBron, it's Durant, it's Rose pre-injury... and then Nikola Jokic. Oh okay. That must have been a weird season.”

Wright drew instant flak on social media, and Jokic’s teammates like Jamal Murray came to his defense as well.

Bogut, the top overall pick of the 2005 NBA Draft, highlighted just that, putting a premium on the Serbian big man's ability to impact teams over aesthetically-pleasing highlights.

“He’s probably basing it on like, he’s not athletic, he doesn’t do windmills, he’s not a highlight guy, do you watch basketball, dude? Like, he’s having a historic season and he is carrying a team that has just had a boatload of injuries,” he noted.

Jokic is having a tremendous year, averaging 26.5 points (56.4% field goals), 10.8 rebounds, and 8.4 assists—all career-highs—while on pace to lead the Nuggets to its best finish in over a decade.

“He makes everyone on his team better, he’s having a great year," he stated. "To say he’s the worst MVP in 35 years, I mean, yeah, that’s just clickbait from some people … He’s now known as Nick Wrong. He’s Nick Wrong for me.”
