Saturday is a big night for Hallmark Channel. When the network’s newest movie, “Love in Design,” premieres, it’ll be the first time that Hallmark favorites Andrew Walker and Danica McKellar have worked together.

Walker told International Business Times he’s “really excited about it…[because] it’s something new to Hallmark,” but that’s not the only reason for his enthusiasm. This project’s extra special because he helped come up with the story, which follows home improvement show host Hannah (McKellar) as she heads back to her hometown and must work with her old flame, architect Jeff (Walker), on a new renovation for her TV program. He pitched it to the network, and he never expected they’d not only want to make “Love in Design” but would be able to land McKellar as his co-star, as well.

“This is a concept that I came up with a friend about two and a half years ago,” Walker told IBT. “So, I’ve been living with this thing for two years now, and I’ve been on all the development calls, and I’ve been developing this thing from the beginning. It really started coming together when Nicole Baxter, the writer, jumped on board. She kind of took it to the next level.”

The “God Bless the Broken Road” actor worked closely with the Hallmark movie as it evolved, but when McKellar joined, Walker felt like he took a “back seat in a way.” He said it was amicable and the right thing to have happened. “The proof is in her work,” he explained of why it was important to have her so involved, too.

“She came on board, and she was like a co-producer with me,” the 39-year-old star said. “There was so much collaboration, and we had tons of fun just like developing the characters. And, to be honest, I never really thought that Danica was even a possibility for the role… I mean, she’s playing her TV personality, and she’s also playing her real-life personality. So, there was a lot of work that she had to put into this, and the amount of dialogue that she has in this film is just crazy. I couldn’t think of a better person.”

He continued: “Seeing the film now and working with Danica, it was just the perfect-case scenario for me. It seemed like everything I had ever imagined and hoped for, the expectations were totally exceeded by having her be a part of this.”

See for yourself how “Love in Design” blew past Walker’s expectations when the movie premieres on Hallmark Channel on Saturday at 9 p.m. EDT.
