Sony is now seeding the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for some of its older Xperia Z devices. In July, the Japanese tech giant had already released the Android 5.1.1 update for its newer devices, such as the Xperia Z2 models and the Xperia Z3 models.

According to Xperia Blog, the Sony devices that are currently receiving the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update includes the Xperia Z, the Xperia ZL and the Xperia ZR and the Wi-Fi only as well as LTE editions of the Xperia Tablet Z. All the aforementioned devices were released in 2013.

One needs to be aware of the fact that only select variants of the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z are receiving the update. The Xperia Z (C6602 and C6603 models), the Xperia ZL (C6503 and C6506 models), the Xperia ZR (C5503 model), the Xperia Tablet Z Wi-Fi only (SGP311 and SGP312 models) and last the Xperia Z Tablet LTE variant (SGP321 model) are currently being update to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

In 2013, Sony had committed that it would be offering latest Android updates for Xperia Z series device. So far, it has managed to keep its promise, Neowin reported.

Sony has not bundled the Stagefright update with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Therefore, the Japanese tech company may roll out a Stagefright fix separately through a smaller update in the near future. The update will install the build number 10.7.A.0.222 on all the aforementioned devices. The Xperia Z2, the Z3 , the Z models have been blessed with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop; however, the update is still unavailable for users of the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z1 Compact, Android Headlines reported.

In June, Sony had started rolling out Android M Developer Preview for the Xperia Z3 models, the Xperia Z2 models, Xperia Z1 models, Xperia E3, Xperia M2, Xperia T2 and Xperia T2 Ultra. These smartphones are likely to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow first. However, there is no confirmation on whether Sony will be releasing Android 6.0 for Xperia Z models from 2013.
