KEY POINTS

  • A$AP Rocky said he is now a member of the dad club after welcoming his son with Rihanna
  • Rihanna's boyfriend said welcoming their baby gave him more energy and a new perspective
  • Rocky said having a child is coming home to heaven every day

A$AP Rocky got candid about his joy in being a first-time dad.

The rapper joined Zane Lowe on the Apple Music 1 radio Wednesday, where he spoke about the joy of fatherhood. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcomed their firstborn in May 2022.

"It's so unexplainable. It's just one of those things. I'm a member of our club now, like the dad club. You see a dad, you see me. I'm playing on, I'm a full dad now," he said, as quoted by People. "Being outside and working and being creative, it drives more energy for you to obviously think and soak things up like a sponge now that I'm a dad, because I have a whole other perspective."

He continued, "But it honestly helps you get home to your family and get home to your baby. And I can't even explain it, man. You come home to heaven every day. I'm so thankful. God is good, man."

It wasn't the first time the "Praise the Lord" rapper opened up about fatherhood. In his interview with GQ in May 2021, a year before he and Rihanna became parents, he described the "Diamonds" singer as the "love of my life" and even called her "my lady." During the interview, he was asked if he was ready to be a dad.

"If that's in my destiny, absolutely," he said. "I think I'm already a dad! All these motherf--ers are already my sons—whatchu talkin' 'bout!"

Rocky saw himself being an "incredible, remarkably, overall amazing dad." He added that he would have a "very fly child."

The first-time parents were reportedly very protective of their child. An anonymous source previously told Us Weekly they rarely leave their baby's side. Another source echoed this to People, adding that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were "doing great" with their new roles.

Also, they are very private with their child as they have yet to share his name with the public.

"They're being very private about their newborn out of concern for his safety and really just want to keep him away from the public eye for the time being. ... They both feel really blessed and couldn't be happier," Us Weekly's source added.

However, Rihanna treated fans with the first official look of their baby in an adorable video on TikTok in December. The clip showed their baby boy smiling as Rihanna, who could be heard in the background filming him, asked, "You tryna get Mommy's phone?"

Later in the clip, the infant yawned and looked out at a car window. Rihanna captioned the video "hacked."
