The iPhone 4S was launched in India at 12 a.m., Friday, and is now available in stores across India through service providers Airtel and Aircel.The phone was announced by Apple on Oct. 4 and has been available for preorder in India since Nov. 18.

Both the telecom operators have priced the 16-GB model at Rs 44,500, while the 32-GB and 64-GB versions will be available for Rs 50,900 and Rs 57,500, respectively.

The iPhone 4S's predecessors, namely the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4, are still available in the Indian market, priced at Rs 20,900 (8GB) and Rs 37,900 (8GB), respectively.

Powered by the new iOS 5, the iPhone 4S is integrated with a dual-core A5 chip processor. It boasts of a 3.5-inch 960 x 640p widescreen multi-touch Retina display.Its 8-MP camera has a larger aperture, a custom lens, advanced hybrid infrared filter and face detection feature.

Another interesting feature is the new voice-activated personal assistant, Siri, which lets you use your voice to send messages, make calls and set reminders. It is a compelling new way to use a phone, by talking to it.
