Since the past couple of months, the rumor mill has been claiming that Apple will be axing the 3.5 mm headphone jack in a bid to launch the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with slimmer design. However, a leaked photo showing the lightning cable assembly of the iPhone 7 suggests that Apple will retain the headphone jack.

Nowhereelse.fr, a French site has revealed a leaked image of the Lightning cable assembly of iPhone 7 that was originally shared on Weibo, a Chinese micro-blogging site. According to Apple Insider, the leaked photo clearly shows that it contains space for a Lightning port and an earphone jack.

In the recent past, all the iPhone 7 rumors have suggested that by removing the earphone jack Apple would not only launch the smartphone with thinner chassis but also have more space to include a bigger battery. The rumor mill has also claimed that the elimination of headphone jack indicates that the iPhone 7 will be arriving with a waterproof chassis.

Past speculations have claimed that Apple would allow users to connect headphones to the Lightning port of the iPhone 7. The Cupertino company is also rumored to be working on Bluetooth EarPods that would allow users to listen to the music wirelessly on iPhone 7.

A recent schematic of the iPhone 7 has suggested that Apple will be launching an iPhone 7 variant with a dual camera setup. This model is dubbed as iPhone 7 Pro. The three dots present on its rear side could feature a Smart Connector for recharging the iPhone 7, while using earphones via Lightning port.

Early speculations indicate that iPhone 7 release date would be set in September this year. The starting price of the iPhone 7 is expected to be $649, which is same as the price of current flagship smartphone, the iPhone 6S.
