KEY POINTS

  • Apple is now selling refurbished iPhone XR models
  • Each model has passed through a rigorous refurbishing process to ensure quality
  • These are cheaper than Apple's current flagships, but more expensive than the iPhone SE

Apple is now selling refurbished iPhone XR units at discounted prices. Various configurations are available, and all of them can now be seen via Apple's online refurbished store.

Phone Arena said the discounts are “decent” and the deals not “earth-shattering,” but the lowered prices may very well mean more iPhone users will be able to upgrade.

Here are the available refurbished iPhone XR deals, as seen in Apple's online refurbished store:

  • Refurbished iPhone XR with 64GB storage – Unlocked

This is the cheapest model, selling for only $499. It's $100 more expensive than the base 2020 iPhone SE, but is $100 cheaper than a brand new iPhone XR with the same storage configuration. It is available in Black and Yellow.

  • Refurbished iPhone XR with 128GB storage – Unlocked

Refurbished iPhone XR units with 128GB of storage are available in Black, Yellow and White for $539. It's only $40 more expensive than the 64GB variant, but the storage has doubled in size.

  • Refurbished iPhone XR with 256GB storage – Unlocked

This model offers the largest storage configuration. It is sold for $629, allowing buyers to save $120 as compared to buying a brand-new unit. This is only available in Black as of writing time.

Why should I get a refurbished iPhone XR?

The iPhone XR was originally released in September of 2018, coming as the most affordable model in Apple's lineup at the time, alongside the more expensive iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

It was powered by an A12 Bionic chip with second-gen Neural Engine, had a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina HD display, and boasted of up to 25 hours of talk time on a single charge. The device had a 12MP rear camera with up to 5x digital zoom. It also had a 7MP TrueDepth camera in front, giving it Face ID capabilities.

Although refurbished iPhone XR models are not entirely brand new, they pass Apple's refurbishing standards. Each unit goes through a rigorous refurbishing process, which includes thorough testing, cleaning and inspection. Each defective component is replaced with Apple-certified parts, and the device is given a new outer shell and battery, which means it looks and feels new.

Each refurbished iPhone comes shipped in a new white box, and comes complete with all manuals and accessories, including EarPods, a Lightning to USB cable, and a USB Power Adapter. They could come with the base iOS version that the device had when first released, or with the latest compatible iOS version.
