KEY POINTS

  • Sources speaking with Bloomberg said Apple will launch a new installment program soon
  • The new program allows Apple Card users to buy Apple devices via six- to 12-month installments
  • The program allows interest-free payments

People with knowledge about Apple's plans revealed that the Cupertino tech giant is planning on launching a program that will let Apple Card users get devices such as iPads easier.

Sources speaking to Bloomberg revealed that Apple is planning on launching a program that will let consumers purchase iPads, Macs and more using the Apple Card. The sources said the program will allow consumers to pay for the devices over several months.

The service, which is set to be launched in the “coming weeks,” will let Apple Card users buy the devices from an Apple Store and pay for them via monthly installments, the length of which varies depending on the device purchased. The sources added that it will be interest-free.

Per Bloomberg's sources, Apple will offer 12-month interest-free installments for iPads, iPad Keyboards, Apple Pencils, Macs and the Pro Display XDR. It will also offer six-month installments for AirPods, Apple TV and HomePod.

Users who buy Apple devices within the new program will have the monthly charges added to their bill. They will be able to manage payments through the Apple Card section in the Wallet app. Apple Card users will also continue to receive 3% Daily Cashback.

Flexibility

Apple launched a similar program for the iPhone in December, MacRumors noted. The program allowed users to buy iPhones and pay for it within the course of 24 months. The new program limits the length to a maximum of 12 months but is still seen to give consumers more options when it comes to upgrading or acquiring a new device.

The new installment program also works in a similar fashion to how carriers sell devices and other products and is designed to give consumers added flexibility in terms of making purchases. Consumers won't have to make huge, one-time payments to get the device they need or want.

The installment program is also meant to encourage consumers to enroll for the Apple Card. Bloomberg's sources added that it will also be compatible with the company's education discounts, which will bring the total purchase price down.
