KEY POINTS

  • A leak claims Apple will release the Powerbeats Pro in new colors
  • There are a total of four bright colors, the leak claims
  • The leak source does not have a track record of accurate Apple plan reveals

Apple might be adding four new color options to the Powerbeats Pro soon, if a leak is accurate.

A social media post in China claims that Apple will be releasing the Powerbeats Pro in four new color options. The post, found in Weibo by iMore, claims that the earbuds, which are designed for active lifestyles, will come in colors that will appeal to many users.

The Weibo post, coming from an account called WaveTech, claims that the Powerbeats Pro will be available in Cloud Pink, Glacier Blue, Spring Yellow and Lava Red. These four colors, if true, will be a welcome addition to the original black, ivory, navy and moss, which iMore describes as “very subdued, somewhat boring colors.”

There are a few reasons as to why readers should take this leak with a huge bucket of salt, however. First, WaveTech does not have a proven track record when it comes to providing accurate information about Apple's plans, MacRumors noted.

Second, this isn't the first time some leak about an Apple product appeared via Weibo – iMore noted that leaks about Cupertino's plans have “often appeared” in the Chinese microblogging site, probably coming from sources who had worked at factories belonging to Apple's partners. The legitimacy and accuracy of such leaks are questionable.

That said, fans should not be surprised if Apple does decide to introduce new colors for the Powerbeats Pro. The company already offered some Beats products, such as the Beats Studio and Beats Solo, in seasonal colors. It will be refreshing to see the Powerbeats Pro in different, brighter colors than they usually come in.

Are they for new models?

Previous reports indicated that Apple has listed new Powerbeats Pro models with new model numbers. While some thought of them as successors to the original Powerbeats Pro, some clues in Cupertino's listing indicate that they aren't.

Based on Apple's listing, the devices with new model numbers are considered “current-gen” models. If the leak about new color options prove accurate, however, it is possible that the Powerbeats Pro units with new model numbers could be variants that come in the new colors.

Fans are advised to stay tuned for more updates as they come.
