  • The Apple TV has no power switch
  • Still, it can be switched off automatically or manually
  • There are several ways to switch the Apple TV off

Turning the TV off is very easy. All users need to do is to press that power button or that off switch, and voila! The TV is turned off in that very instant.

Turning an Apple TV off, however, is a totally different thing. Both the Apple TV 4K and the Apple TV HD lack a power button which means users will need to do something else to shut them down when the show stops.

Thankfully, users won't have to worry about turning an Apple TV device off, Apple Insider noted. Apple thought about that and has give users a variety of ways to turn these devices off whenever they need or want to. Here's how to turn an Apple TV off.

By leaving it

The Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD have the ability to turn themselves off after a user stops watching shows. There are a few caveats to this, however. In order to let the device turn itself off, users will need to go back to the main menu page (by pressing the Home button) and leave it.

The device will switch itself off after a while. The amount of time, however, depends on what the user sets. To set the amount of time before the Apple TV sleeps, iMore says users will need to open the Settings app, choose General, choose Sleep After, then choose from a pre-defined amount of time that includes Never, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, one hour, five hours or 10 hours.

Manually putting it to sleep

Those who want to make sure that the Apple TV is turned off can manually put it to sleep by opening the Settings app, scrolling through the bottom of the list, then choosing Sleep Now. This puts the Apple TV to sleep immediately, without asking users anything.

Using the Siri Remote

Those who have a Siri Remote can turn the Apple TV off simply by long-pressing the Home button on the remote, then selecting Sleep when prompted.

Turning the Apple TV and connected television off

Those who want to turn both the Apple TV and the tv set it is connected to off at the same time can do it by pressing Home to go to the top level of the Apple TV screen, pressing and holding on Home for a few moments, then selecting Sleep All Connected Devices when prompted.
