  • Unlike Samsung Fold, the foldable iPhone reportedly comes with two separate display panels on a hinge

Apple has not yet confirmed the existence of the iPhone 12 series but many fans believe that it might launch the next generation flagship iPhone series on Sept or Oct 2020. Since 2019, there were rumors that the Cupertino-based tech giant is working on a foldable iPhone. A new set of details recently surfaced online, revealing details of the alleged foldable iPhone.

The latest set of details about the foldable iPhone comes from industry insider Jon Prosser. On his Twitter account, the reputable tipster shares that the rumored foldable iPhone is not really foldable. He adds that the prototype comes with two individual display panels on a hinge.

Prosser further claims that the rumored foldable iPhone is round with stainless steel edges similar to that of the current generation iPhone 11 series. The said iPhone has a tiny forehead on its external display that contains the Face ID and it has no notch, reveals Prosser. Additional, the reliable tipster reveals that the foldable iPhone does not seem like two connected iPhones.

The device is open and looks seamless and continuous, the industry insider adds. Based on the details, it seems like the Cupertino tech giant is avoiding a screen over the hinge to prevent any design issues that Samsung suffered during its initial launch of the Galaxy Fold. Also, Apple may be preventing potential problems that may be caused by repeated closing and opening of the device, which could include the failure of the screen material.

Interestingly, Prosser’s details about the alleged foldable iPhone indicate that the Cupertino tech juggernaut would not use a notch, which Microsoft also avoided. It looks like Apple would resort to housing the FaceID and other essential sensors on the tiny forehead located above the iPhone’s display. Will Apple release the rumored foldable iPhone as iPhone 13 or iPhone 14?

It is worth mentioning that while Jon Prosser has an impressive record of leaking details of upcoming products, these are not yet official. It is safe to take this information with a good measure of salt. Apple is expected to unveil its next generation flagship iPhone series sometime at the end of the second quarter or in the early part of the third quarter of this year.
