  • Arsenal has been linked to a swoop for Norwich City's Emiliano Buendia
  • A former Arsenal striker thinks Buendia could be a credible co-star for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
  • Gunners boss Mikel Arteta addressed Aubameyang's situation

Arsenal may be looking at a potential major signing who could be a significant addition to Mikel Arteta’s attack.

The future seems bright for Norwich City star Emi Buendia as English top flight club Arsenal is said to be striving to complete his move to Emirates Stadium this summer, Eurosport reported.

Arsenal appears to be consistent in pursuing Buendia as The Athletic‘s David Ornstein reported earlier this year that the Gunners had been tracking the attacker for over a year and a half now. However, Ornstein said that Arteta’s side was unwilling to match Norwich’s £40 million ($55.5 million) asking price for Buendia at the time.

Should Arsenal’s plan come to fruition, former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell assessed that Buendia would complement Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s game as the 24-year-old could certainly boost the club’s scoring and playmaking.

“I don’t know if he’ll play as a number 10,” Campbell recently told Football Insider of Buendia. “But he will be an added midfield player who can create and score. That’s the key.”

“The goals need to be shared out because when you’re too reliant on one player, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, this season when he’s gone off the boil, we’ve been stumped,” he added. “You’ve got to get goals from all over so the threats are multiple. I just think Mikel Arteta’s playing a smart game by trying to get him because another person who can score and create, that’s the name of the game. You can’t just have defenses zero in one player.”

Buendia has been spectacular for Norwich this season. To date, the Argentine has already bagged 10 goals and completed 12 assists in 30 Championship appearances.

Though nothing is concrete yet between Arsenal and Buendia, the player’s agent, Gustavo Goni, is certain his client is headed to the Premier League.

“In his first season in the Premier League he showed that he could be a protagonist, and now, after relegation, he has shown that he has matured,” Goni told Tutto Mercato Web. “ Next season (he will be) in the Premier League.

“Whether he is at Norwich or in other interested clubs, we will see him in complete tranquility,” the agent added.

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arteta has lifted the lid on Aubameyang’s current situation.

It can be recalled that the Gunners captain arrived late during Sunday’s derby against Tottenham. In what many believed to be a punishment, Arteta benched Aubameyang for the entire game.

However, the Gunners boss insisted that the issue has been settled in a “really positive way.”

“We talked, everything has been resolved in a really positive way so we move forward,” Arteta told The Guardian. “Everybody has to obviously perform at the highest level to earn their place in the team. There is no exception there and we will try to put a really competitive team out to try to win again.”
