Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime has been the talk of the town since its release in December. At CES 2012, Asus announced a new model of Transformer Prime TF700T with a bigger battery and screen resolution. Rest of the specs is similar to the original Transformer Prime.

Another tablet that has been doing the rounds is Acer Iconia A500, which has a 10.1-inch screen offering resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels at 149 ppi. The A500 runs on the Android Honeycomb operating system and has a dual-core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 chip. The tablet features a 5MP camera on the back and a 2MP camera on the front. The tablet, which weighs 730 grams and is 13mm thick, comes with 16/32GB storage that can be expandable up to 32GB via microSD card.

Let's see how the new model of Transformer Prime fares with Acer Iconia Tab A500:

Display: The new Transformer Prime has a 10.1-inch high-definition display providing a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels at 224 pixels per inch (ppi) density in 178 degrees ultra-wide viewing angle Super IPS+ panel with Gorilla Glass. On the other hand, Acer Iconia Tab A500 has a 10.1-inch LCD capacitive display offering resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels at 149 ppi density.

Size: Asus Transformer Prime TF700T has a dimension of 263 x 180.8 x 8.3 mm and weighs 586 grams, while Acer Iconia Tab A500 has a dimension of 260 x 177 x 13.3 mm and weighs 730 grams.

Operating System: Asus Transformer Prime TF700T runs on Google's Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) Operating System while Acer Iconia Tab A500 runs on Google's Honeycomb OS.

Processor: The Asus tablet has a quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A9 CPU Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset and ULP GeForce GPU. On the other hand, Acer's tablet has 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 T20 dual-core Cortex-A9 chip and ULP GeForce GPU.

Camera: The Asus tablet has an 8 megapixel camera capable of capturing videos in 1080p and a 2 megapixel camera on the front for video call while Acer's tablet sports a 5 megapixel camera on the rear and a 2 megapixel camera on the front.

Connectivity: Both tablets support Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, EDR and USB v2.0.

Storage: Asus Transformer Prime TF700T comes in 32GB/64GB with 1GB RAM and has a microSD slot supporting up to 32GB. Acer Iconia Tab A500 has a 1GB RAM and comes in 16/32GB internal storage, which can be expandable up to 32GB with a micro SD card.

Battery: The Asus tablet has a 25Wh battery while the Acer tablet has a 3260 mAh.
