  • Aung La N Sang takes on Fan Rong at ONE on Prime Video 6
  • Aung La N Sang is a former two-division champion
  • Fan Rong returns to action for the first time since December 2021

A former two-division world champion will be stepping back into the ONE Championship Circle this coming January at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

On the undercard of ONE on Prime Video 6 this January 14 (January 13 in the United States), "The Burmese Python" Aung La N Sang has been scheduled to face Chinese sensation Fan Rong in a must-see middleweight matchup.

The ex-ONE middleweight and light heavyweight titleholder was at one point the most dominant man on the promotion's roster.

From 2017 to 2019, he was at the top of the food chain as the outfit's simultaneous middleweight and light heavyweight champion.

During that stretch, Myanmar's sports icon defeated the likes of Vitaly Bigdash, Alexandre Machado, Ken Hasegawa and Brandon Vera.

Aung La N Sang's reign in both weight divisions would come to an end at the hands of Reinier de Ridder in 2021.

Since then, Aung La N Sang's mixed martial arts (MMA) career has been up-and-down.

He has won two of his last three bouts and is coming off a vintage performance against former UFC title challenger Yushin Okami at ONE 163 back in November.

Now, Aung La N Sang has the opportunity to get another win streak going at the expense of Fan Rong.

Looking to carve his own path to ONE Championship gold, Liaoning, China's Fan Rong hopes to get back on track against one of the biggest names in the division.

After dropping his promotional debut to would-be double champion Reinier de Ridder back in 2019, Fan Rong notched back-to-back victories over Sherif Mohamed and Yuri Simoes.

Fan Rong's momentum would be derailed once more after getting choked out by former champion Vitaly Bigdash back in December 2021.

Now, after over a year out of action, Fan Rong returns to the cage and faces the toughest test of his career.

For the former two-division champion, taking a fight against a fighter ranked much lower in the division could be a good way to build some momentum and slowly get back into the upper tier of the rankings.

If Aung La N Sang can defeat Fan Rong decisively, expect him to get a big step up in competition and once again be discussed as a potential contender to de Ridder's middleweight crown.

At this age, Aung La N Sang has stated that he doesn't have any problems being a gatekeeper in the division, but if he can somehow work his way back up the list of contenders, then he could find himself on the brink of becoming a two-time ONE middleweight champion.

ONE on Prime Video 6 will feature a stacked card headlined by Superbon Banchamek vs. Chingiz Allasov for the ONE featherweight kickboxing world championship, while Elias Ennahachi meets Superlek Kiatmoo9 in a rematch for the ONE flyweight kickboxing world championship.

The card will also feature Rodtang Jitmuangnon vs. Daniel Puertas in a flyweight kickboxing contest.

Plus, former two-sport champion Stamp Fairtex meets Anissa Meksen in a hybrid MMA-Muay Thai clash.
