A pregnant woman in India reportedly lost her baby at the time of giving birth, following which her family alleged medical negligence.

The incident took place in Qazigund, a town in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir. Family members of the pregnant woman, identified as Shaboraza Akhtar, took her to the Emergency Hospital on Tuesday morning, where she was already under treatment by a doctor.

The family said the patient was being operated on to deliver the baby, and "even doctors told us to buy clothes for the baby, however, after few minutes we were informed that the baby was dead in womb since four days," according to Kashmir Life.

"If the baby was dead in womb, then how she wasn't informed on Monday and how life of our daughter was also risked," the family said. "We demand justice as it should not be happen with others as the nine months of our sister has gone in vain."

The family also said there were injury marks on the baby's body, and the death was caused due to the negligence of doctors.

The current condition of the woman was not revealed.

A committee has been formed to investigate the incident, Dr. Shugufta Salam, medical Superintendent of the Emergency Hospital, said, Greater Kashmir reported, citing news agency KNO.

"I assure the family and other people that a fair probe will be done in this regard and anyone found guilty will be dealt with as per the law," she said, according to Daily Excelsior.

Earlier this month, a 40-year-old woman in India died after she was administered an injection in a hospital, following which her family staged a protest outside the facility, alleging medical negligence. The incident took place at Maternity and Child Care hospital in Srinagar, a city in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir. "Giving the injection despite knowing about reaction is negligence and she died in no time," one of the family members alleged. Authorities launched an investigation into the incident, following which an official of the hospital told news agency KNO the patient was just given a test dose. "The injection is in vial and just a test dose was given and it happens in rarest of rare cases that patient collapses even after test dose and it seems the same has happened with this patient," he said.
