A teenage couple in Brazil was fatally shot in the middle of the street last week, which left the 10-month-old son they were traveling with sitting in a pool of their blood.

Nicolas Elias Albuquerque do Prado and Cleidiana Pereira Alixandre, aged 18 and 19, respectively, were exiting a taxi outside a property in Alto Garças, Mato Grosso Friday when they were shot and executed by two men on a motorcycle, Brazilian media outlet G1 reported, citing the country's Military Police force.

Do Prado was shot three times in the head, while Alixandre was hit in the same area two times, a report by Gazeta Digital said. The gunmen allegedly asked for the couple's baby boy to be left on the floor before they gunned down the parents.

The assailants fled the scene after the executions, which was in front of a property believed to be a drug den, according to New York Post. The owner of the property allegedly witnessed the incident, but she told authorities she did not recognize the suspects.

Footage of the scene showed the teenage couple's 10-month-old baby covered in blood as he sat crying by his parents' bodies. He was reportedly taken by child services to a hospital for treatment for injuries sustained when he fell to the ground.

The child is now under the care of the Guardianship Council, which has referred him to a health unit in the municipality of Rondonópolis.

Both Do Prado and Alixandre were believed to be involved in drug trafficking and gangs, police said. The two parents had criminal records, according to Brazil's Civil Police.

Do Prado was previously convicted of drug trafficking and was under investigation for two counts of robbery. Alixandre, meanwhile, has previously been arrested for receiving stolen goods and was investigated for suspected theft in Alto Garças and in Santa Rita do Araguaia in the state of Goiás.

The Official Skill and Identification Technique agency will collect the couple's bodies and forward them to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, where necropsy examinations are carried out.

The case will be investigated by Civil Police.
