“Bachelor” nation cannot stop talking about the huge twist for Season 11 of “The Bachelorette.” During the “After the Final Rose” ceremony, host Chris Harrison surprised viewers by announcing that there would be not one, but two bachelorettes for 2015. Front-runners Britt Nilsson and Kaitlyn Bristowe from Chris Soules’ latest season of the ABC reality show were named the co-stars.

Former contestants on “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” expressed their distaste for this new twist, and Soules voiced his opinion on the matter during a press call with reporters.

“I can say I was somewhat surprised that they decided to go that route,” Soules told International Business Times. “But it’s hard enough to be the bachelor or the bachelorette, let alone going into something where you’re walking in, kind of competing with another woman. Now they’re competing at a certain extent with each other to be ‘The Bachelorette.’ That’s the tough decision to be in. … I just wish the best for both of them and see how it goes. It will be fun to watch. ... Glad it’s not me.”

His’ fiancée, Whitney Bischoff, chimed in that she doesn’t “envy” Britt or Kaitlyn.

Prior to the shocking announcement, Soules had sat down with E! News and threw his support behind 29-year-old Kaitlyn. The dance instructor from Vancouver was eliminated from “The Bachelor” following the fantasy suite date. Chris had said letting go of her was “physically painful,” but that she would make a great next “Bachelorette.”

“I think she’s got the right type of energy,” he explained. “She’s funny, she can be entertaining and she’s beautiful. She’s at the point in her life that she’s really serious about finding love. I think that’s important. When you’re on this, you don’t want somebody there who wants more notoriety. You want someone who’s really sincere.”

Chris didn’t mention Britt, and possibly for good reason. After eliminating the 27-year-old Hollywood waitress before hometown dates, he revealed in his People “Bachelor Blog” that he sent her home because he was beginning to doubt her sincerity.

“It started to feel like she was putting on a performance,” Chris wrote. “And the girls’ comments supported that.”

While the pair seemed to be on good terms when they reunited during “The Women Tell All” special, Chris’ comments about the new “Bachelorette” season could potentially be throwing shade at Britt. During the press call Monday, he added the most important part of doing the show: “the purpose of finding your soul mate and a person to marry, and knowing in your heart that you’re ready for that.”

“I think that if either one of them, if they’re truly there, then your heart will lead you in the direction, and you’ll handle it with the type of respect that the people that are coming there to find love deserve,” Chris continued.
