Former President Barack Obama announced that he tested positive for COVID-19. Obama posted on Twitter that he was grateful to be vaccinated.

“I just tested positive for COVID. I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days but am feeling fine otherwise,” Obama posted Sunday on Twitter.

Obama also said that his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, has tested negative. “Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted, and she has tested negative.”

COVID cases have been declining in the U.S.

Obama reminded people of the importance of getting vaccinated. If infected, the COVID-19 vaccine helps symptoms be less severe.

“It’s a reminder to get vaccinated if you haven’t already, even as cases go down,” he added.

The Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention say: “Getting a COVID-19 vaccination is a safer way to build protection than getting sick with COVID-19. COVID-19 vaccination helps protect you by creating an antibody response without you having to experience sickness.”

Obama recently returned to Washington, D.C., after spending time in Hawaii, according to a person close to him.
