Barcelona Assistant Coach Eder Sarabia is now being bashed on social media after fans found a tweet where he called Lionel Messi’s ultimate rival Cristiano Ronaldo the best "goalscorer."

Things have not been good in Barcelona the past days. The tension between the players and the coaching staff has reportedly been growing. This has led some Barcelona fans to dig deeper into the issue and in the process, found a statement from Sarabia which angered them.

Sarabia is no stranger to controversies. Many are aware the he and Messi are not in good terms. Nonetheless, fans were surprised to see a tweet from Sarabia back in 2015 which revealed he was a Ronaldo fan, something Messi fans did not appreciate.

“There has never been a goalscorer like Cristiano [Ronaldo],” Sarabia tweeted in Spanish.

It didn’t take long for Twitter users, mostly Barca fans, to put Sarabia under-fire. A series of criticisms bombarded the coach and some even wanted him to leave the club.

“What a crack are you Eder,” one fan wrote.

“Please leave the club,” another fan commented.

Since Sarabia’s arrival in Barcelona, he has been accused of taking a leading role during matches while Head Coach Quique Setién stayed in the background.

He has also reportedly clashed with the Barcelona squad on multiple occassions. In fact, in one of Barca’s recent games, a short video clip showed Messi allegedly ignoring Sarabia as he tried to discuss something with the Argentine.

Despite this, Sarabia had nothing but nice words to say about Messi. In an Instagram live session, the Barca coach noted that it was a privilege to work with the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

“Messi is perhaps the best athlete of all time, and the best footballer. It’s amazing, because of his knowledge of the game, because of his execution, it’s a privilege to work with him,” Sarabia said.

“Until you’re inside the dressing room and know them then you don’t fully understand how they are. There are a lot of things behind each of them,” he added.

Meanwhile, speculation involving Messi's departure from the football club was dismissed by former Barcelona President Joan Gaspart.

According to Gaspart, Messi will not leave Barcelona and someone from the inside just wants to mess up everything because it’s the election year.
