  • Barca could opt to sign Paul Pogba this summer
  • Pogba's transfer fee is expected to be around $73 million
  • Pogba has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer

FC Barcelona reportedly could chase Manchester United star Paul Pogba during the summer transfer market.

It is widely known that the likes of Neymar and Lautaro Martinez are Barcelona’s top targets ahead of the upcoming transfer window. However, Neymar’s move back to Camp Nou looks highly impossible after the recent statement from the player’s current club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has created a major financial impact on several sectors, including soccer. And PSG have announced that if a club is interested in signing Neymar this summer, they will have to pay $196 million in cash.

Barcelona are looking for buyers for players such as Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo and Ivan Rakitic, and will use the revenue generated through these transfers to sign Martinez, who has been put a price tag of $67m by Inter Milan.

According to a report in Don Balon, Barca are looking to lure another superstar along with Martinez this summer, considering Neymar’s deal is almost off. The report further stated that Barcelona could be chasing Man Utd midfielder Pogba who has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer.

Pogba, who moved to Old Trafford for a fee of $118m ahead of the 2016-17 season, is expected to depart from the Premier League club at the end of this season. His move happened for a world record fee in August, 2016, before Neymar’s transfer from Barcelona to PSG set a new record at $250 million.

Real Madrid came close to signing Pogba last summer when Zidane had accepted to take charge of the La Liga giants once again, provided the club brought in Eden Hazard and Pogba. La Blancos signed Hazard from Chelsea, but president Florentino Perez did not go ahead with Pogba’s transfer for undisclosed reasons. While Zidane is still trying to get Real sign Pogba and this time with PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, Barcelona are looking at the midfielder as a great fit to strengthen their squad for the premier European tournament, UEFA Champions League, a trophy they last won in 2015.

Pogba’s current contract at Man Utd is due to expire in 2021 and there is no way the former Premier League champions will let their superstar walk out as a free agent. They will definitely aim to cash in on Pogba’s transfer fee, which is understood to be at least $73 million.
